A study from Statista showed that whilst Generation Z, i.e. those born from 2000 onwards, would normally be considered the most likely to shop online, when it comes to buying a car they lag behind the older generations. The study based on a survey of consumers who would consider buying their next car or other motor vehicle online in the United Kingdom in 2017 showed that the 30-39 year olds would be most willing to buy a car online whilst teenagers and those over 50 were more reluctant.

The survey also showed that less than 50% of respondents believe that getting a personal consultation from a sales person was important.
